"angel of history" pulls lines from a few sources:
- Walter Benjamin's "The Image of Proust" and "Theses on the Philosophy of History"
- "put your loving arms around me / honey like a circle 'round the sun" I heard first in Muddy Water's "Rock Me." The line might have been written by Gus Cannon for the Memphis Jug Band's 1929 track "Stealin', Stealin'."
- "what hills are these, my love" is from a traditional British (?) ballad known as "The House Carpenter" or "The Daemon Lover"
